All About vonMenchhofen Urtext Editions
Old World Values Using New World Technology Tools
There is something intrinsically special about a tangible piece of music, whether that is a full symphonic score or a few lead chords scribbled on a napkin. It is the materialistic manifestation of another person's creativity and that creative spark which gives raise to the musical idea. A physical score is something that can be held, seen, felt, and smelled (with the correct ink). It is a gift to all the senses. A concrete piece of music is the beginning of a great performance because it gives the performer a viseral sense of the ephermal nature of the composer's musical thought. A physical score can give an anchor as the performer learns and grows into the music. A solid score can be passed down to the next generation with palpable ideas scribbled in margins by those performers who have come before. As vonMenchhofen Urtext Editions' motto says: "Beautiful Music begins with a Beautifully Engraved Score". In our lives, technology can be a hinderance to a sense of moment and place. However, we must admit that we also love technology! For it is a great tool that can broaden our experience, knowledge and nature ability (just - it should never replace the sense of moment, of the human and of the divine in our music).
vonMenchhofen Urtext Editions our mission is to use great technology to broaden musical expression. We strive to do this in two ways:
- To bring new music into being: Music that might not otherwise be seen or heard.
- Allow new voices to be experienced and shared: From composers that have a limit reach for audience to a much great audience.
